Plant engineer Production

I didn't have a fixed career goal – so as a child and young person I thought about different professions. All the "dream jobs" had one thing in common: They should be varied, challenging, responsible and ultimately fun for me. That's exactly what I find at thyssenkrupp rothe erde.

My background

Back to the roots: This is what I can call my background – at least regionally – because I grew up about 20 kilometers from my current job. In the meantime, I studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Dortmund, specializing in materials technology. On the one hand, I was able to support my theoretical knowledge and on the other hand I could earn my living by working as a student assistant and doing various internships, among others in Switzerland. Afterwards I moved to Aachen, where, in addition to my work as a project manager and later as a group leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology, I had the chance to do a doctorate at the machine tool laboratory (WZL) of Aachen Technical University (RWTH). Since during this time I was heavily involved in various machining production processes, the management of national and international projects, and not least in organizational and strategic issues, thyssenkrupp rothe erde was at the top of my list when it came to further career planning. My subsequent application process as a direct entrant confirmed the positive image which I had of thyssenkrupp: Prompt feedback on my application documents and an open interview in which I was treated as an equal.

Currently, I work as a production engineer in the Lippstadt plant on project production of slewing bearings.

My challenges

One of the most important tasks in my job is certainly cross-departmental collaboration. The overriding objective is always to deliver a high-quality product on time to the customer while adhering to cost aspects. It makes no difference whether it is a matter of coordinating with upstream departments in the production process (e.g. engineering, construction), talking to employees on the shop floor or answering customer-specific technical questions.

My typical working day

An essential point I value about my work is the complexity of the tasks. In my day-to-day work, I deal with issues such as the implementation of new technologies in production, feasibility studies, specifications for machine procurement and production planning. In addition, there is of course the central building block of "day-to-day business" with the aim of ensuring a smooth production process.
